Front Door - Main Entrance through custom made 4 inch thick door with r-value of about 18. (Most doors are about R-5) ..... The 50 R-value of the straw bale walls gives this home about 2 1/2 times better insulation value than a conventional

Stuccoed Straw Bale Wall Detail - I let the wall come to its end with out making it squared or linear. The house is stuccoed with a mixture of lime and sand. This strong plaster allows the straw bale walls to breath, releasing any ambient moisture from the bales. Regular stucco could capture damaging moisture.

West Side of House - Wind, snow, rain and cold blow against this side of the house thus fewer windows. More straw bale wall detail mid way down. .... When I come home in winter after being gone for several weeks while the heat has been off, I'll turn on a small propane heater for and in 20 minutes the house will be warm enough so I can take off my jacket.
